dance marinara 2011

This community engagement project was initiated by Tasdance in association with Tas Regional Arts over 18 months on the North West Coast of Tasmania. The theme was 'dance then and now' and what dance means to people living in regional Tasmania. Choreographers, Sarah Fiddaman and Malcolm McMillan distilled stories collected by Jen Brown in the story catching caravan and cooked up a performance that highlighted dance and its significance in the lives of people and their communities. Dance Marinara included photography, recorded conversations in audio and video, and live performance. A huge variety of dance styles are passionately pursued along the north-west coast of Tasmania - from hiphop to ballroom to bellydancing!
